Position Overview:

This position is classified as part-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (50%) and coaching (teaching) (50%) responsibilities. The esports coach will provide instruction and coaching to varsity-level esports teams to increase their knowledge and understanding of games in which UCO competes on a varsity level. Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare esport athletes for competition. Plan, organize and conduct practice sessions. Educate and enforce safety rules and regulations. Educate individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular game category. Evaluate athletes' skill level and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in joining UCO varsity. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their game category. Will assist and run Esports training camps. Provide excellent customer service, technology assistance, and facility preparation for instruction, learning, and collaboration. Provide technical assistance to end users by answering questions and troubleshooting issues. Greets and communicates with faculty, students and customers; handling incoming/outgoing phone calls, returning messages, corresponding via email.

College/Department Overview:

The CO-OP Gaming Arena is a 5,700 square foot, multi-million dollar facility operated by the University of Central Oklahoma to provide a home to the gaming community of Edmond, OKC, and beyond.
As the official home of UCO Esports, a NACE member, CO-OP hosts teams engaging in some of the most competitive events in collegiate esports in games such as Overwatch, League of Legends, CS:GO, and more.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Supply input to practices and camps throughout the year. Be available to provide positive feedback in order to help the UCO esports program achieve and maintain a level of excellence. Assist in running practices, esports events and covering shifts at the arena as needed. Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching and coaching, preferably at the collegiate level. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. Appropriate profession accomplishments and credentials.

Experience Preferred:

Previous experience as an Esports Coach. NACE membership or equivalent.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated competency in the areas of skills instruction, academic prioritization, ability to function in a multi-dimensional organization, and talent assessment. Ability to work in an environment where the education, welfare, and graduation of Esport athletes receive primary emphasis. Must an expert in at least of one of our PC titles or PC game categories (FPS, MMORPG, etc.). Must be well-rounded and knowledgeable to coach multiple titles.
