Residence Hall Director for Upperclass Experience

The Residence Hall Director for Upperclass Experience is a 12 month, live-in professional employee with the Office of Residential Student Services. Supervised by the Director of Residential Student Services, the Residence Hall Director (Professional Services Specialist III) is responsible for the total operation of a residence hall or area housing approximately 350-450 residents. Primary duties include: selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of student staff including: Resident Assistants (RA), Desk Assistants (DA) and Community Assistants (CA). The Residence Hall Director creates an environment in which residents can focus on a vision for their future by offering experiences to celebrate their final years at Kean and prepare for life after graduation. Resources and mentors might come from a large variety of sources, including academic departments, colleges or schools, and student organizations.

The Residence Hall Director provides support, guidance, and peer mentorship, works to create an environment conducive to academic excellence and fosters personal development and a sense of community within the living environment.

Due to the required duties and functions of this position and the need for accessibility in the residence halls, this position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours and on-campus residency which will be provided by the Office of Residential Student Services. This employee is considered essential personnel and is critical to the functioning of the University and continuation of key operations and services . This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the work day during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in residence life in higher education is required. Experience with residence hall student development and facilities operations is preferred. Must have strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills, proven leadership, and be computer literate.
