Position Function

Provide overall leadership and direction for the Department of Housing and Residence Life, and L.A. Pittenger Student Center and Programs; supervise professional, service/support, and para-professional staff in the management of facilities, personnel, budget and management for the assigned departments; participate as a senior member of the Student Affairs staff in planning, program evaluation, budget development and policy formation.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree.

Minimum Experience

Seven years of progressive, responsible experience in student affairs; administrative experience in housing and residence life; understanding of auxiliary budgets; supervisory experience.

Minimum Other

Clear evidence of excellent skills in collaboration, communication, planning, program evaluation, supervision, budget management, and organizational management.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Doctoral degree.

Preferred Experience

Experience with emergency response, strategic planning, inclusive excellence, and community engagement.

Preferred Other

Pre-Employment Screening

Job Duty

Participate with the Vice President for Student Affairs and others in defining the role and mission of Student Affairs within the university and work to communicate these to all institutional publics.



Job Duty

Interpret university policy and procedures regarding Student Affairs matters to varied internal and external publics.

Support the Vice President for Student Affairs in providing leadership for the division.

Provide guidance and advice to the Vice President for Student Affairs on budget and personnel matters.

Develop and establish the vision and mission for the assigned departments.

Promote educational activities and services within the assigned departments to support the development of students’ academic, personal and social needs.

Maintain general supervision over the activities of Housing and Residence Life including residential life, university apartments, custodial, maintenance, facility planning, administrative activities, budget and personnel.

Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the assigned departments to ensure efficient and effective operations, programs, and services.

Interpret departmental and institutional policies to students, parents, and university personnel.

Provide oversight for the budgets of Housing and Residence Life and L.A. Pittenger Student Center.

Communicate to constituencies and stakeholders both within and outside the university.

Serve as co-chair of the University Crisis Management Team.

Total responsibility for the effective operation and results of personnel management in multiple work units.

Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, and training and career development of personnel.
