Job Summary

The Business Analyst I acts as an intermediary between the stakeholders and Information Technology Services working with IT project teams and clients to collect, clarify, and translate business requirements into documentation and conceptual design using appropriate tools and models from which applications and solutions are developed.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

•Collaborates with executive and senior leaders to create and maintain an operating plan to achieve the strategic vision and operating platform that defines the people, processes, tools, and technology.

•Partners with business and technology partners to elicit, analyze, translate, and document business requirements into technical requirements.

•Analyzes, documents, and tests program development, logic, process flows and specifications.

•Develops technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes, workflows) and communications. Documents user manuals to describe application installation and operating procedures.

•Partners with business partners to conduct user acceptance testing.

•Develops new techniques and procedures to enhance university business processes.

•Reviews progress, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices.

• Leads projects and coordinates with other teams to produce better business processes.

•Collects and analyzes data to identify potential improvement opportunities. Creates recommendations for improvements.

Other Duties:

•Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $67,000 - $70,000

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer information systems or a related field.

Three years of professional full-time relevant experience.

Two years of experience developing business requirements, test plans, or process flows utilizing various technologies.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of experience working with database systems.

Experience in higher education.

Experience with project management, production support, and customer service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of basic system engineering, object-oriented design, information risk and security guidelines, and architecture standards.

Knowledge of the various software development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, RUP, and Waterfall).

Strong working knowledge of relevant Microsoft applications, including Visio.

Strong analytical skills applied to understanding business functionality and translating them into application requirements.

Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

Skill in mapping, analyzing and re-engineering business processes in an organization of considerable size, complexity with diverse user needs.

Skill in converting business requirements and functional requirements to specific user cases, epics, and user stories with user testing criteria.

Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.

Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

Ability to create modeling techniques: Object Orientation Analysis, UML (e.g. Use Cases, Activity Diagrams).
