The Portland Community College Music Program seeks an Instructional Support Technician based at Rock Creek Campus. The Music Program welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and abilities to study, perform and develop their instrumental or vocal skills in preparation for transfer to four-year institutions as music majors and minors. The instructional support technician enhances students’ learning experience by ensuring classes, events, and facilities are properly organized and set up to run smoothly. Their work involves coordinating digital audio and video production, designing and delivering promotion campaigns, managing live music performances, maintaining studio/lab spaces, purchasing equipment and supplies, and managing the equipment loan program. The instructional support technician also coordinates the work of casual staff, including student workers. The scope of this includes developing work schedules, onboarding, and providing ongoing coaching.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Experience supporting live music events using sound reinforcement streaming technologies.
  • Experience promoting programs and events by creating and distributing print and digital media.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain music or event facilities and equipment, such as recording studios, performance spaces, and musical instruments.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team setting which involves scheduling, coordinating, and managing the work of team members.
  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to use software to record, edit, mix, and master music.


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support (relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis).
  • Two years of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area is required.
  • Must have proven communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform and ability to lead others.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate user of recording studio technologies and processes.
  • Intermediate understanding of digital audio recording software to record, mix, and master music events: Ableton, Logic, ProTools, or Studio One preferred.
  • Experience managing sound, video streaming technology and lighting for live music performances.
  • Intermediate user of software used to create digital and print promotional materials, event documentation, audio and video recordings.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating the work of casual employees, including student workers.
  • Experience using social media, web pages (CMS - Wix, Squarespace, etc.), newsletters (Mailchimp, etc.), and email to promote events.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary and historical contributions of diverse people to any, several, or all of the following fields: music, art, design.
Position Grade 18 Starting Salary Expectations The first two steps of the range are: $42,241 to $43,508 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $42241 to $67785 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 8 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)
  • 8 hours of sick leave per month
  • 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year
  • 11 Paid holidays

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work pressure, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.
  • Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature extremes.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Some learned physical skills are required.
  • Physical effort such as frequent standing, walking and lifting; guiding and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment; occasional periods of sustained effort.
