Position Summary Information


Under general supervision, assists in coaching duties for the sport assigned at California Baptist University (cheer). Assists with aspects of the program that may include recruitment, practice organization, game day preparation and performance, training and/or strength training for athletic competition by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.
2. Assists head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition using sound principles and judgment consistent with the philosophy of CBU Athletics.
3. Assists with the design of workout programs and training routines to improve athletic performance.
4. Assists as directed with implementing and supervising athletic training, strength, and conditioning workouts; provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport.
5. Participates in various fundraising, marketing, and promotion activities.
6. Assist in coaching all sport practices throughout the season.
7. Assist in planning the training of the team for season.
8. Assist in coaching both competition and game day cheerleading.
9. Assist in organizing and coordinating game day plans with coaches, pep band director, game management and facilities staff.
10. Coordinate team travel
11. Motivate team for maximum performance by utilizing motivational philosophies that meet the needs of the students and that are consistent with the CBU Athletic Program philosophy.
12. Display good sportsmanship in relationship with students, staff, officials and opponents as consistent with NCA policies regarding the principle of sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
13. Maintain up-to-date information of sport regulations, rule changes, CBU and NCA policies.
14. Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.
15. Assist in recruiting and following up with qualified student athletes by phone, e-mail or through on campus visits. Within the framework of CBU, NCA and NCAA policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically.
16. Ability to train and instruct advanced tumbling skills preferred
17. Assists as directed with implementing and supervising athletic training, strength, and conditioning workouts; provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport.
18. Assist with various program duties such as uniform ordering, scheduling, team activities, alumni events, game day/half time performances and other duties as assigned.
19. Assists organizing cheer clinics (for example: Little Lancers) to further community outreach and fundraising.
20. Adhere to all institutional, conference, NCA and NCAA by-laws and regulations.
21. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
22. Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes.
23. Students will receive instruction and spiritual guidance that will lead to positive values, acceptable behavior, and self-discipline consistent with the philosophy of athletics at CBU .

 Ability to read and follow technical instructions and manuals.
 Skills in the use of first aid procedures.
 Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
 Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
 Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
 Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
 Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and work nights/weekends.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. NCAA experience preferred.
