Southwestern University invites applications for an Assistant Director of Student Activities position.  The Coordinator of Student Activities is part of a programming team responsible for all operational aspects of a comprehensive and vibrant student activities program designed to promote personal growth, the empowerment of students and enhance student persistence and success. The Coordinator is responsible for identification, research, establishment, development, supervision and continued operation of campus-wide programming, including leadership development, advising student organizations, handling general administrative tasks, and coordinating activities and services with other University entities. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Associate Dean for the Student Life.

Responsibilities include: Develop, establish, maintain, and assess programming efforts involving the campus community, students, and/or student organizations; work with various students/organizations, including the University Program Council, on program planning, implementation, and assessment, leadership development, and needs assessment; serve as a resource to student organizations in areas of registration, finances, programming and leadership development; implement a weekend entertainment series to include first-run movies and nationally touring performers; plan, implement, and assess an on-campus “large act” concert on an annual basis; provide activities, programs and limited services for on-campus students during defined university breaks; develop and monitor program budgets for programming efforts; convene and oversee various committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree; general knowledge regarding student development theory and practices; desire to work with traditional age students in a residential, student-centered environment; excellent computer skills; willingness to adhere to the University's core values; possess excellent interaction and communication skills (verbal and written); have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community; demonstrated professional manner with all internal and external constituents; ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product; possess proven ability to perform well in stressful situations; ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation; understanding and commitment to a liberal arts education, including the ability to relate to a liberal arts faculty and the ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.  Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field and experience in graduate assistantship or internship.
