General summary/purpose:

The Research Program Coordinator will be engaged on the work of several Division of Rheumatology sponsored clinical studies, specifically for the Lyme Disease Research Center team at Greenspring Station. The position will coordinate the implementation of research protocols as well as ongoing administrative processes related to these studies; screen and enroll patients, and provide continued monitoring of these studies ensuring that all protocols are followed and status reporting, billing, and other regulatory components are performed correctly.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • Assist with all aspects of participant recruitment by identifying appropriate (adherence to protocol) patients for clinical studies, schedulingpatient visits and assessments, and performing necessary follow up.
  • Collect data via extraction from paper and electronic medical records, chart review.
  • Obtain informed consent from eligible patients and document the consent process.
  • Maintain logs of patient screening, surveys and visits.
  • Perform data entry on a timely basis. Review data input for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in maintaining filing system for electronic and paper-based research records.
  • Maintain all regulatory binders for enrolling studies and studies in follow-up phase.
  • Prepare and maintain individual participant study binders.
  • May be asked to assist with calculations using computerized database, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines. Adhere to FDA regulatory compliance and regulations (where indicated). Seek guidance if unclear.
  • Handle patient biological specimens and follow protocol requirements, appropriate handling and labeling. Must complete biosafety training modules.
  • Download ultrasound images from the scanner to SAFE Desktop application.
  • Appropriately correspond with the IRB; be familiar with all research reports that must be submitted to the IRB and contribute to their preparation.
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy in the conduct of research trials.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision, but seek clarification when needed, particularly regarding data quality and integrity issues.
  • Effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • BA/BS in related discipline required and some experience. (Relevant employment experience may substitute for some education.)

Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in clinical or medical research setting.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Familiarity with JHM SAP software and knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail orientated, self-motivated.
  • Ability to be flexible in work conditions, hours and work well in team setting.
  • Ability to use a laptop and personal computer.
  • Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - interviewing techniques required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to multitask.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
