Position Summary:

The Research Specialist will work with the principal investigator (PI) and graduate students in the Biomolecular Chemistry Department to pursue a robust recently funded research program in the general area of RNA biology. Work in the laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating mRNA translation during development in vertebrates and cell differentiation in human cell culture. Approaches employed include molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and genomics. Personal initiative, independence, strong organizational abilities and enthusiasm for laboratory research are essential.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BS/BA in Biological Sciences, with a degree or focus on Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

One (1) year of experience in a research laboratory. Applicants with research experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred: molecular biology techniques, including cloning, expression, isolation and manipulation of RNA; cell culture and growth of mammalian cells. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, keep a detailed lab notebook, and learn new techniques and train others is especially desired.
