Job Summary

Provide general professional development guidance to students, and serve as the primary adviser to international, underrepresented students and students with disabilities. Meet individually with students, conduct workshops, develop resources, and implement professional development programs that support and foster equity and access to career and professional development.

Essential Functions

Program Development & Advising:

• Develop and implement programs that proactively support diversity, equity and inclusion and ensure all student have access to the professional development process during their time at Smith
• Collaborate with the Advising team to develop resources, programs, and activities that will engage and support international, underrepresented students and students with disabilities
• Develop and deliver programs and resources to enhance students’ knowledge of workplace rights
• Conduct individual advising appointments with students; engage in outreach to student organizations to build a presence and collaborate engagement with students
• Collaborate with the Dean of International Students, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Office of Disability Services, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity and other relevant offices to engage students and develop shared programming that will maximize reach to students
• Facilitate workshops, alum panels and other events
• Collaborate with the Center’s team of Peer Advisers to develop outreach strategies

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience working with diverse backgrounds.


Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Familiarity with the benefit of a residential liberal arts education and ability to articulate the value of liberal arts students to employers. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong technical ability and familiarity with Handshake, Symplicity (or comparable systems), Webinar, video conferencing systems (Zoom, GoToMeeting, BlueJeans, Interview Stream, etc), Able to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team. High attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks, projects and events under competing deadlines and shifting priorities.

Additional Information

Ability to work occasional evenings.
