Job Summary

The part-time Interpreter will provide highly effective sign language interpreting and transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing students, faculty, staff, and community under the direction of JCCC Access Services. The Interpreter will adhere to the interpreting Code of Professional Conduct and will provide a range of administrative assistance to department management and staff when not scheduled to interpret.

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree or higher in Sign Language Interpreting or related field
Possess at least one of the following standardized interpreting certifications: Registry Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) National Certification except for K-12 specialty; Board of Evaluation Interpreter (BEI) Advanced or Master; Current Kansas Quality Assurance Screening (KQAS) of 4/4 or higher
Three years of interpreting experience in a higher education setting
Ability to work varying hours including days, evenings, nights and weekends as needed
Ability to provide own transportation to and from campus and/or off-site assignments
Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts professionally

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Interpreting or related field
BEI Advanced or Master
NIC certification beyond RID 2011 version
