BEST in CLASS is hiring Coaches for an IES funded study: BEST in CLASS Elementary, which is a federally funded by a research grant from the Institute of Education Sciences of the US Dept. of Education and housed at VCU . BEST in CLASS – Elementary, a Tier 2 intervention, targets the reduction of challenging the behavior of young students at risk for emotional/behavioral disorders. The intervention is designed to enhance and support elementary teachers’ use of effective instructional practices that can help support learning and prevent challenging behaviors. Most teachers are already using many of the BEST in CLASS practices in their class; however, when teachers increase and enhance their use of these practices, many students at risk for social, emotional, and behavioral disorders will learn the social and behavioral skills necessary for school success.
The Coach will provide support to elementary school teachers for approximately 25 hours per week as they learn to implement the BEST in CLASS intervention. This includes meeting weekly with teachers and maintaining contact via email and texting with teachers.
Training will be provided on how to collect data in the classroom, including: child assessments, classroom assessments, direct observation of videos, and other measures as indicated.
This position requires daily travel in targeted areas of Richmond City public schools, making it critical for the candidate to have active access to transportation daily. The general percentage of travel for this position ranges from 0% to 25%.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor’s Degree;
-Ability to develop positive, supportive relationships with teachers;
-Ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
-Excellent verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail;
-Sufficient computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Drive;
-Ability to multitask and learn new information;
-Professional attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality;
-Sincere desire to assist teachers in helping at risk students succeed.

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience teaching or working in K-12 classroom settings;
-Master’s Degree in Education or Master of Arts in Teaching;
-Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
