The Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana (FMRWM) is seeking an ABFM or AOBFP certified family physician for our ACGME accredited (with Osteopathic Recognition), community-based program. This position is available in Missoula in 2021 and could be hired at the level of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor depending on experience and qualifications. Applicants must possess or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Montana. Applicants must demonstrate experience and competence in teaching and patient care. Responsibilities include
  • Function as a member of the FMRWM core faculty, with responsibilities including:
  • Resident teaching in clinical and didactic settings
  • Clinical supervision of residents
  • Provision of direct patient care in outpatient settings
  • Participation in scholarly activity
  • Serving as an advisor and role model for residents
  • Participating with other core faculty in the ongoing development of FMRWM


Position Details
  • The position is a full-time, 1.0 FTE Letter of Appointment and includes a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (i.e., MUS health insurance benefits, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program).
  • Salary for the position is $187,000 - $210,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.


Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency in Family Medicine
  • Board certification by the ABFM or AOCFP
  • Montana medical license
  • DEA license
  • Ability to obtain clinical privileges at Community Medical Center, St. Patrick Hospital & Partnership Health Center
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated medical knowledge and the ability to apply it in the care of patients
  • Proficiency in the maintenance, practical use, and dissemination of evidence-based medical knowledge
  • Ability to prepare and deliver didactics presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality care to all age groups in the Family Medicine Center, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other sites
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively perform common procedures
  • Ability to maintain an active, Family Medicine Center-based clinical practice
  • Able to fulfill call responsibilities
  • Ability to create and regularly update a goal-oriented plan for personal, professional and practice improvement
  • Ability to teach in one-to-one and small group settings
  • Ability to precept efficiently and effectively, and act as a consistent role model for residents
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate and teach patient care and procedural skills
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to community issues and needs. Work with community practitioners for the purpose of educational support and community relations
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in coordination of resident activities in other Montana communities


Preferred Qualifications

One or more of the following:

  • Osteopathic training and experience sufficient to serve as Director of Osteopathic Education
  • Experience in sports medicine or musculoskeletal medicine
  • Candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine
  • Residency faculty experience
  • Rural practice experience
  • Training and experience sufficient to practice obstetrics or inpatient medicine
  • Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) experience or training

The Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana (FMRWM) program is part of the University of Washington's Family Medicine Residency Network and exists to provide superior, comprehensive education in Family Medicine.
