Job Description:

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources, the HR Generalist will be responsible for a wide range of human resources functions including but not limited to employee recruitment, employee onboarding, processing new hire paperwork and separation paperwork, assist with training and development, employee investigations, benefit administration, leaves of absences, and compliance with Curry College policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

1. Employment 

  • Directly handles the Curry's recruitment process that includes advertisement development, post open positions, screen resumes as requested and participate in interviews to provide overview of benefits, as requested; create and collect candidate evaluations; process background checks as necessary;
  • Issue new hire appointment letters;
  • Enter new employee data into human resources information systems;
  • Ensure compliance by monitoring employee files, critical due dates and benefit eligibility by consistently using tracking methods to track outstanding items;
  • Creates and maintains employee files. Reviews and collect proper documentation for all Employee I-9's and maintains I-9 files in accordance with Federal mandates;
  • Administer the student employment program including maintaining a policy and procedure manual, providing supervisor training, and processing payroll changes into the system for student employees. Recruits and interviews prospective student employees for the Human Resources Office;
  • Updates organization charts using Microsoft Visio;
  • Conduct exit and entrance interviews;
  • Process Unemployment Claims. Determines Contestable Claims. May represent College at unemployment hearings;
  • Communicates with temp agencies to help coordinate temporary help. Refers billing to appropriate department for payment;
  • Assist with updates to the Employee Handbook, as needed.

2. Benefits

  • Assists with entering benefit enrollment, changes and terminations in the applicable vendor database on a scheduled basis;
  • Assist with responding to employee questions regarding general questions as to the College's Employment Handbook;
  • Assist with the College's Employee Wellness Program.

3. Service

  • Organize workflow and maintain order in such a way that meets internal and external expectations and ensures on-time delivery of all commitments to administration, employees and internal team members. This will require juggling multiple projects and managing deadlines in an environment where business needs may change and priorities may require constant reshuffling.

4. Training

  • Coordinate training of new supervisors of regular employees including new hire orientation, hiring and onboarding training for managers, orientation period evaluations and annual performance evaluations.

Additional Functions

  • Serve as a member on committees as designated;
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and uses discretion when working with employees, students, and sensitive human resources information;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or psychology or in a related field;
  • At least two to three years of recent Human Resources experience;
  • General knowledge, understanding and ability to apply employment laws and practices;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills; comfort with public speaking situations;
  • Uses high level of judgment and able to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Word and Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in a higher education institution;
  • Knowledge of Banner;
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
