Position Summary:
Job Summary
The Head Women's Tennis Coach reports to the Assistant Director of Athletics. The primary roles are to organize, recruit and develop and foster a successful Women's Tennis program in connection with the mission and strategic plan of the university and serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through their instructions and actions. In addition, a secondary administrative responsibility will be assigned.
Specific Responsibilities
- Recruit quality student-athletes for the tennis
program
- Develop and conduct organized practices
- Develop a schedule that includes representative and competitive
contests
- Develop and maintain sport budgets
- Adhere to all NCAA DIII and conference rules and
bylaws
- Coordinate fundraising opportunities for the tennis program, if
appropriate
- Counsel student-athletes in a positive, professional
manner.
- Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU
community
- Represent the university to various constituents in a
professional manner
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Deep understanding of and passion for the game and substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the sport; Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships. Requires ability to multi-task and attend to detail. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with current students and parents, prospective students and parents, and staff and faculty in a professional manner. Ability to use technology and equipment specific to the sport. Ability to organize and supervise the sports program.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with three years of coaching experience required.
Master’s Degree and coaching experience at the college level preferred.
Additional Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle. CPR, AED and First Aid certification is preferred.
Physical Demand
Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach the sport. Position requires frequent running, walking, stooping, and bending, crouching and physical activity. Position may also require the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction ability to frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Position requires lifting, pulling, pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires travel. Work is indoors and outdoors.
