ThunderWolf Recreation, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs, is seeking applications for a Coordinator for Sports & Competition. This position oversees the operational, financial and personnel functions of the Club Sports and Intramurals programs and serves as the key administrator for the various programs/events and services within the Sports and Competition area.

 

 Description of Job: Reporting to the Associate Director of ThunderWolf Recreation, this position is responsible for managing a diverse Sports & Competition program which includes the Club Sports and Intramural Sports programs– both in-person and virtual. Club Sports has a range of competitive and recreational clubs while the Intramural Sports program has a variety of sports offered throughout the year in both competitive and recreational formats. Additionally, the coordinator shall recruit and manage events for local youth teams and support the Coordinator Experiential & Youth Programs to host summer and seasonal youth programs.
 
This position will coordinate the daily operations, staffing, and strategic visioning for these programs as well as the support student development initiatives. The coordinator shall directly hire, train, develop and supervise student staff. This position will be responsible for growing Club Sports activity offerings in line with university needs and industry trends, while providing new and innovative Intramural programs for a largely non-traditional student base.  
 
This position works closely with all departments in Student Life, EPER, Facilities and Auxiliary Services.
 
Primary Duties

Sports & Competition Programming
  • Provide day to day leadership of Club Sports and Intramural Sports programming with an emphasis on risk and financial management. 
  • Develop programming formats to best serve a non-traditional student user base, which includes working adults. 
  • Train, advise, and provide leadership development to all club officers to assist them in the administration of individual club activities, and successful compliance with campus, conference and governing bodies' policies. 
  • Implement all programs utilizing current recreational sports and student development practices. 
  • Assist with additional areas of program delivery dependent on individual competency and program needs. 
  • Responsible for the inventory and purchasing of equipment for programming needs as well as individual club needs. 
  • Administer participant related disciplinary action. 
  • Manage facility preparation for home contests, preseason preparation, master competitive schedules of clubs, weekly practice schedules and post-season playoff involvement. 
  • Assist in creation of policies and procedures, develop and adjust rules with necessary forms to provide a safe and enjoyable playing environment. 
  • Collaborate with Senior Program Director regarding policies and procedures impacting all Club Sports and Intramural Sports related areas and recommend improvements to policies and guidelines. 
  • Schedule and coordinate indoor and outdoor venues for adult and youth programs. 
  • Provide high quality and consistent virtual programming options for program orientation, education, delivery, staff training, performance review and assessment.   
Personnel & Relationship Management
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate Club Sports, Intramural Sports and Youth Programs Staff.
  • Provide daily staff supervision.
  • Administer employee related disciplinary action. 
  • Assist with selection, training and supervision of ThunderWolf Recreation staff.
  • Assist with the planning, evaluation, and implementation of all ThunderWolf Recreation staff training when appropriate.
  • Assist with selection, training and supervision of ThunderWolf Recreation staff.
  • Assist with the planning, evaluation, and implementation of all RecPack staff training when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Student Financial Services
Support of Youth Programming
  • Plan and manage revenue generating youth programs in summer and throughout the year with the Experiential and Youth Programs Coordinator.
  • Assist with budget planning, policy development, safety/risk management and assessment of special events and youth camps.
  • Identify and grow youth programs to create additional auxiliary revenue for the department. 
  • Market and manage youth events such as sport tournaments, camps, team development, birthday events, etc. 
  • Oversee activity development and logistical schedules for all youth programs. 
  • Market and promote programs to the university and community.
Support of ThunderWolf Recreation Department  
  • Assist in overall management and supervision of the Student Recreation Center and its affiliated programs to ensure the highest quality and success of programs. 
  • Serve and assist all department professional staff as needed in other areas (strength, fitness and wellness, the outdoor adventure program, informal recreation, aquatics, recreation scheduling, membership) services, equipment rental, and youth programs
  • Assist with the overall operation of recreation services, departmental functions, office operations, and administrative procedures (including service hours, scheduling and administrative management) of the Student Recreation Center. 
  • Serve on internal and external committees, planning teams, building supervision, staff training events and other essential events.
Occasional and irregularly performed duties 
  • Support the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Colorado State University Pueblo.
  • Attend Student Life and other campus meetings, events, trainings and serve on committees related to the mission and goals of the division and the University.

     Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights: Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, or related field required.
    • CPR/First Aid Certified.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities including virtual programming.  
    • Demonstrated ability of professional communication.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a college or university recreation environment with emphasis on a student development driven program, during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position. 
    • Minimum of 1 year experience in leadership of Club Sports and/or Intramural Sports programming, risk management, and fiscal management. Experience in travel coordination of Student organizations, and understanding of policies, procedures and safety measures accompanying travel (regional and national)
    • Experience in officiating and officials development 
    • Experience with ESports and virtual programming
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in recreation, physical education, or related field preferred.
    • CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification
    • Officiating certification from a governing body in one or more sports. 
    • Professional involvement such as the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). 
    • Demonstrated experience with, FUSION, staff scheduling software and web-based incident/accident reporting.
    • Demonstrated experience IM Leagues.
    • Demonstrated experience with Discord, Twitch and other social engagement outlets.
    • Completed Graduate Assistant position in Club or Intramural programming.
