The Fisher Studio Arts Shop Manager will provide technical support, assistance, and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students working in Fisher Studio Arts wood and metal shops, and sculpture classes. This will include in class and one-on-one demos in equipment use and shop safety procedures, as well as work with students during evening shop hours to develop and hone woodworking, metal working, and other sculpture skills and techniques. This position reports to the Director of Operations for Studio Arts, and is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position. The work schedule is: Monday - Thursday, 2 – 10 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Bard College’s main campus is in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., with 1,900 undergraduate students; the College also includes multiple graduate programs. Other Duties:

• Communicate with faculty concerning assignment schedules or specific student needs.
• Notify director, as well as security, of any anomalies or incidents that may arise with equipment status, student usage, etc.
• Help director with tasks and assignments as needed.
• Perform maintenance and upkeep of facilities, tools and equipment.
• Assist with upkeep and appearance of shops, classrooms, and exhibition spaces, as well as outdoor areas surrounding facilities.
• Train and manage student shop monitors. Manage student shop use via Acuity online scheduling system.
• Walk through building and lock up shops at the end of the shift, making sure all tools are returned and all equipment has been shut off, and shop areas have been swept clean
• Assist with installation of student exhibitions.
• Help manage recycling efforts, waste management.

Qualifications:

• Working artist, minimum of a B.F.A. with a concentration in sculpture.
• Proficient in sculpture techniques (including wood working, metal working, basic construction, and all hand and stationary power tools, CNC programming a plus).
• Excellent communications and organizational skills.
• A/V equipment knowledge and excellent computer skills a plus.
