The Director and ADA Coordinator will provide oversight and coordination for University disability initiatives and will be responsible for assuring compliance with the ADA as amended, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities, particularly relating to education and employment; filing all necessary reports; and providing consultative services to various units and offices across campus. Works with the leadership of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services to ensure that appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from University employees and students, as well as the public, regarding University policies and the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws pertaining to discrimination on the basis of disability. Serves a key liaison across and beyond the campus, providing strategic resource planning for all University services, facilities, policies, and procedures relating to, as well as the promotion of, University opportunities for persons with disabilities that may go beyond compliance with federal and state law.

Qualifications

• Graduate or professional degree in a relevant field required.

• Three (3) plus years of experience in a position requiring leadership, analytical skills, and familiarity with ADA and other relevant law.

• The ideal candidate will have lived experience and deep roots in the disability community.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in creating and supporting inclusive diverse and respectful environments.

• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the University, to build productive working relationships.

• Ability to develop, coordinate and conduct University-wide and targeted educational programs including programming regarding campus culture, universal design, and electronic and information technologies accessibility.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence all levels within the institution as needed.

• Ability to develop, manage, and objectively evaluate projects and progress of those projects.

• Ability to conduct research and analyze data.

• Knowledge of ADA and other relevant law.

• Knowledge of management issues and employment law.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and coordination for University disability initiatives and will be responsible for: assuring compliance with the ADA as amended, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities, particularly relating to education and employment, filing all necessary reports; and providing consultative services to various units and offices across campus.

• Central Planning Responsibilities: serves a key liaison across and beyond the campus, providing strategic resource planning for all University services, facilities, policies, and procedures relating to, as well as the promotion of, University opportunities for persons with disabilities that may go beyond compliance with federal and state law.

• Informational Responsibilities: maintains current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations, as well as best practices, concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards. Responsible for ensuring that the online Accessible SU Portal is up to date and providing timely and accurate information.

• Compliance Process Responsibilities: works with the leadership of Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Resolution Services to ensure that appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from University employees and students, as well as the public, regarding University policies and the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws pertaining to discrimination on the basis of disability.

• Central Consulting and Outreach Responsibilities: provides ADA interpretation and advice on adherence to both policies on compliance and the philosophy of `beyond compliance’ to all sectors of the University community.
