The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL . We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office. The staff of the Division is truly student-centered and concerned about the holistic development of the student.
Position Summary
The University of Wisconsin—La Crosse ( UWL ) is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Coordinator of Student Wellness in the Student Life Office. Under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, the primary goal of the Coordinator will be to use balanced, theory-driven, and evidence-based approaches and education to cultivate and promote a culture of health and wellness for UWL students. A key role for the Coordinator shall be responsibility for alcohol and other drug education. Efforts in this area will focus heavily on prevention and risk reduction and include engagement with students in one-on-one interventions. The Coordinator also serves as a general health and wellness resource for the campus and community and has additional responsibilities including budget review, student supervision, and grant writing opportunities. On a large scale, the Coordinator works with campus and community partners to identify ways to engage students and promote the seven dimensions of wellness. A close office partnership exists with Violence Prevention to support campus violence prevention initiatives and their overlap with holistic wellness and sexual and relationship health. Additionally, the Coordinator collaborates with the Student Health Center, Residence Life, University Centers, and the Student Recreation Center to create, promote, facilitate, and evaluate programs that address topics including alcohol and drug use, physical and mental health, and sexual health education. Another key responsibility of the Coordinator is oversight of a Peer Health Advocate program that is designed to aid and support ongoing health education across the campus. This supervision provides opportunities to cultivate personal and professional development among a team of students who are passionate about health education and their peer-level support of students’ health and wellbeing.
Required Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree, which must be in public health, human service, health education, or a health promotion-related field.
Preferred Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in public health, human service, health education, or a health promotion-related field.
• Previous work experience in health promotion and/or health education in a higher education setting. Work may include undergraduate or graduate practicum or internship experiences.
• Experience working with college-aged populations.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Previous experience engaging persons in alcohol and other drug education and intervention opportunities.
• Experience or familiarity with SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment).
• Experience or familiarity with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students ( BASICS ) risk reduction intervention program.
• Experience with motivational interviewing.
• CHES / MCHES certification or is CHES / MCHES -eligible.
• Possess strong skills in collaboration, organization, program facilitation, and supervising others.
• Working knowledge of health assessment procedures.
• An energetic and dynamic public speaker and educator.
• Experience in grant writing.
• Demonstrated creativity and a capability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities.

• Develop, implement, and evaluate activities and programs that address health-related issues of our student population. Develop and maintain a primary focus on alcohol and other drug prevention and intervention.
• Incorporate prevention, intervention, and referral processes into program designs and ensure that programs are grounded in intended and measurable learning outcomes.
• Implement and oversee the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and CASICS (Cannabis Screening) programs and meet individually with students who are referred to those programs through the student conduct process. Provide training and supervision to other program facilitators.
• Guide Peer Health Advocate ( PHA ) program planning and implementation, and evaluate learning objectives to improve program effectiveness and sustainability.
• Work collaboratively with key campus and community partners to promote holistic wellness on the UWL campus.
• Coordinate a Wellness Advisory Committee to promote the collaborative vision for wellness on campus.
• Provide professional and reliable health education and health promotion expertise and leadership.

• Oversee the peer health education program, including selection, training, and supervision of the PHAs. Establish and communicate clear expectations and protocols. Provide PHAs with student development opportunities and evaluate major programming efforts of the PHA team.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate graduate and student staff. Annually review student staff performance.
• Create and manage a Wellness Office budget. Ensure program initiatives remain within budget constraints.
• Research potential federal, state, or private funding sources and grants for community health programming. Provide content expertise and support in proposal planning, writing phases, and submission of funding requests. Assist Student Affairs Division staff with wellness-related funding proposals, as necessary and appropriate.
• Create, maintain, and evaluate wellness-related content on the Student Life Office website. Develop other wellness content, including posters, packaged wellness programs, and other wellness marketing materials for use on campus. Manage social media for the Student Life Office and Student Health Center.

• Serve as lead author and reviewer of the federal Drug-Free Schools and Community Act Biennial Review document.
• Develop intentional assessment and evaluation methods for existing health-related programming and PHA efforts, with specific focus on campus alcohol and other drug use. Work collaboratively with Student Conduct, the Dean of Students, and other identified campus partners to coordinate efforts to measure alcohol and other drug use and other related student conduct data.
• Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students and Student Conduct to review current strategic planning and policy related to alcohol and other substance use and recommend policy updates, as necessary.
