    Department Summary
    The Center for Translational Neuroscience (CTN) is a center within the Department of Psychology whose mission is to translate knowledge from basic neuroscience and apply it to improve well-being, promote resilience, and mitigate the effects of early adverse experiences.

    The Psychology department, located within the College of Arts and Sciences, is one of the largest departments supporting significant instructional and research activities in a wide range of fields within the discipline. The Department enrolls about 1,900 students per term, with approximately 300 undergraduate Psychology majors and 80 doctoral students, and includes approximately 35 teaching faculty, emeriti faculty, research staff, graduate students, and professional/administrative staff.     Position Summary
    The EC PRISM team, in the Center for Translational Neuroscience within the Department of Psychology, is seeking a Research Specialist to support its work providing early childhood organizations with individualized consulting services as well as science-based tools to help them in areas of early childhood program design, implementation, measurement, evaluation, and scale. EC PRISM's mission is to empower early childhood organizations by providing accessible, science-based tools and guidance.

    The Research Specialist position will work closely with EC PRISM Consultants to provide content expertise in the areas of educational program design, implementation, measurement, and evaluation. In addition, this position will contribute to the continued development of the IMPACT Measures tool. The successful candidate will have expertise in conducting program evaluation for educational programs and experience in the development of surveys for program evaluation. They will also have the ability to translate complex scientific concepts in measurement and evaluation to non-experts (i.e., science communication). This position requires content expertise in one or more of the following areas: early education, special education, equity and inclusion, social emotional development, educational measurement and assessment, pediatrics, child welfare, childcare, and/or caregiver expertise. No neuroscience training or background is needed for this position.

    The Research Specialist will lead quantitative and qualitative research activities to support client needs in the delivery of consulting services, working with EC PRISM Consultants. In addition, the research specialist will provide science translation support to clients in the areas of measurement and evaluation. Consulting clients include nonprofit organizations as well as public institutions, with services provided in the areas of early childhood program design, implementation, measurement, and evaluation. The Research Specialist will write reports and briefs as part of service delivery, and support the development of future grant proposals. The Research Specialist will also assist in the development of the IMPACT Measures Tool, an online searchable database of early childhood and parenting measures.

    The Research Specialist will also serve as a facilitator and presenter at EC PRISM community events, utilizing content-specific knowledge & fidelity expertise to inform internal model development processes.

    The Research Specialist will provide guidance, training, and advisement to other staff and volunteers as needed. The Research specialist will report to the Technical Assistance Coordinator and will also work closely with the EC PRISM director.

    The final category and rank for this non-tenure track faculty appointment will be determined based on finalist qualifications and experience. A Research Associate will have a terminal degree, and a Research Assistant will have a combination of an advanced degree (i.e. Master's) and significant experience in the field of education and/or early childhood development.

    This position may require up to 35% travel.

    Minimum Requirements
  • PhD (Research Associate rank) -or- advanced degree (i.e., MA/MSW/MPH, etc.) plus three years relevant job experience (Research Assistant rank)
  • Previous course work -or- one year of experience related to statistical analysis and data management
  • Previous course work -or- one year of experience related to psychometrics and measurement
  • Previous course work -or- one year of experience related to program evaluation

    Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD plus two years relevant job experience (Research Associate) -or- advanced degree (i.e., MA/MSW/MPH, etc.) plus five years relevant job experience (Research Assistant)
  • Experience in educational measurement and evaluation
  • Experience in early childhood
  • Experience with acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting research data, and summarizing findings via written reports and oral presentations
  • Experience in providing consultation or working directly with early childhood community organizations
