Position Overview

As a key member of the customer-oriented Human Resources Department, the Human Resources Generalist (“HR Generalist”) is someone who has a commitment to diversity and

inclusion and possesses cultural sensitivity. This role offers a vast diversity of responsibilities in ensuring smooth and efficient business operations. You will play a critical role engaging in all areas of HR including recruitment, total rewards (compensation and benefits), training and development, employee relations, performance management, and communications.

Reporting to the Senior Employer Relations Specialist, this role:
  • Provides coaching and counseling to employees and managers on a variety of employee relations issues, as well as HR policies, practices and procedures.
  • Assists management with assessment of performance, improvement needs and the development of associated action plans.
  • Supports the Sr. Employer Relations Specialist in facilitating and conducting confidential conversations to address employee needs, bringing timely resolution to employee matters and conflicts.
  • Manages on-boarding of new employees, New Employee Orientation, employee recognition programs and service awards.
  • Handles ADA accommodation requests, handbook updates and exit interviews.
  • Participates in manager training and serves as a training facilitator as part of the ODLI programming.
  • Participates in activities related to compensation such as job description development, job analysis/FLSA classification, providing council to management on compensation related issues, compensation analysis and development of recommendations.
  • Ensures that salary offers are in alignment with University policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, pay practices, compensation philosophy and market conditions.
  • Conducts workforce data analysis, prepares summary reports, develops and recommends strategies and actions.
  • Collaborate with the HR operations team on HR communications including HR newsletter and internal website.


Requirements / Skills / Experiences
  • Bachelor's degree or significant relevant experience in the Human Resources industry
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience required, generalist experience preferred
  • PHR or SPHR certification (or equivalent related professional designation) is a plus but not required
  • Prior human resource professional experience working with leaders in a large / matrix organization is a plus; prior experience in higher education is a plus;
  • Prior experience with employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate member of the HR leadership team as needed;
  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local employments laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and compliance;
  • Excellent time management, decision-making, presentation, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong acumen of HR processes, systems and best practices, as well as legal compliance with national employment laws and regulations;
  • Well-developed analytical and influencing skills, unquestioned integrity and confident presence;
  • Stays abreast and engaged in emerging human resources industry best practices;
  • Ability to understand business needs and connect those to human resources strategies and plans for assigned business unit;
  • Demonstrates curiosity and desire to continuously learn and grow and contribute to the professional growth of others;
  • Outstanding Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of HRIS systems (Workday a plus)
  • Immigration/visa knowledge would be helpful.
  • Campus based position: May be eligible for Partial Remote Work.
