Academic Success Coordinator
The Center for Advising Administration and Academic Partnerships
(CAAAP) at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the
Academic Success Coordinator (full-time, 12 month) position. This
position will serve as a member of Center for Advising
Administration and Academic Partnerships and will coordinate
student engagement and success programs in the University to
include the Early Alert Response System and other programs for
upperclassmen in academic difficulty. Other duties include:
developing retention initiatives that will assist all students in
achieving academic success; teach at least one section of the
University 111 (Sophomore Seminar Course) each fall semester; meet
individually with students who have low GPAs and are in jeopardy of
not returning to the University; serve as a liaison to specific
colleges whose students have not met the requirements to remain in
good standing and will do outreach to these students to explore
alternative career options; oversee faculty advisor training;
provide leadership for the Annual College Majors Fair.
Required Education: Master’s degree in counseling, public administration, higher education, or other related discipline.
Required Qualifications: Some experience using Banner, Degree Works, or comparable programs. Some experience with group counseling and teaching. Considerable experience in counseling and advising students in academic difficulty. Considerable academic advising experience. Some training in use of student information systems. Some knowledge of transfer students programs, processes, and procedures including working with “at-risk” populations. General working knowledge of academic vocabulary. Comprehensive knowledge of counseling and student development theory. Excellent interpersonal skills, including public speaking. Strong written communication skills and skills utilizing technology and assessment. Effective programming and presentation skills. Effective organizational skills; versatility and problem-solving skills are a must. Ability to multitask and attend to details and completing job requirements in a dynamic work environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Considerable academic advising experience in a higher education setting.
