Drury University is a mid-sized private institution founded in 1873, located in Springfield, Missouri, and known for its proximity to the Ozark mountains, is developing a physician assistant program slated to begin in Fall of 2023. The program is seeking an individual who loves educating students, the educational process, and works well in a team-oriented environment. 

The experienced clinician and educator will work closely with the program director in developing the inaugural didactic year.  The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of the didactic phase of the physician assistant program, and provide effective leadership toward meeting program and student learning outcomes related to the pre-clinical phase of the program. The Director of Didactic Education will work with the Program Director and other members of the PA faculty to ensure that students consistently meet the program’s student learning outcomes and to ensure the program’s didactic phase follows all ARC-PA accreditation standards pertaining to didactic training.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create and develop a dynamic curriculum for the academic year that includes problem-based learning, active learning, and classroom-based learning
  • Prepare didactic year syllabi consistent with the program mission
  • Direct didactic program delivery including creating and maintaining the didactic year class schedule
  • Course coordination and classroom teaching
  • Work with faculty to ensure compliance with educational objectives and academic rigor is maintained
  • Assign teaching assignments and ensure appropriate distribution of faculty workload and resources
  • Recruitment and scheduling of guest lecturers for didactic courses
  • Direct and lead test preparation and examination delivery and student and program assessments
  • Construct and coordinate remediation policy and programming
  • Student academic and professional development advising
  • Assist with data collection and analysis to support the ARC-PA self-assessment process for evaluation of the didactic year and overall program success
  • Assist in the continuous review and compliance of the ARC-PA accreditation process
  • Serve on committees assigned by the program director
  • Participate in the admissions process including application review and selection for the Drury University PA program
  • Perform any other responsibilities delegated by the PA program director
  • Clinical practice time is encouraged.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant from an ARC-PA accredited program
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • Eligible for Missouri state licensure as a PA
  • Three (3) years academic experience (preferred)
  • 3 - 5 years clinical experience (required)
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching
  • Experience in PA education administration (preferred).
