Drury University, established in 1873, where the culture is defined as “a spirit of community, passionate about student success” and a top 20 Midwest school, located in Springfield, Missouri, is developing a physician assistant program slated to begin in the Fall of 2023.  The program is a seeking a dynamic and creative individual excited about physician assistant education to build and implement the clinical phase of the program.

The experienced clinician and educator will work closely with the program director in developing the inaugural clinical year.  The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of the clinical year of the physician assistant program including cultivating and maintaining clinical rotation sites. The director of clinical education will work with the program director and other members of the PA faculty to ensure students consistently meet the program’s student learning outcomes. The director of clinical education will also work to ensure that the program’s clinical phase follows all ARC-PA accreditation standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify and develop supervised clinical experiences that preserve clinical education and program mission
  • Oversee clinical curriculum development, including the design and implementation of the clinical phase of the program
  • Prepare clinical year syllabi consistent with the program mission
  • Supervise all members of the program’s clinical education team
  • Design a viable model to evaluate student and preceptor experiences for compliance, including oversight of ongoing assessment and improvement of the clinical phase of the program through evaluation of student performance, preceptor performance, clinical site quality, and clinical curriculum
  • Collaborate with the program director and site development coordinator to design and implement an ongoing clinical site monitoring plan to ensure the program has adequate SCPE sites
  • Orientation and direction of students to the assignments and requirements of the clinical year rotations
  • Lecture in areas of clinical expertise
  • Student academic and professional development advising
  • Assist with data collection and analysis to support the ARC-PA self-assessment process for evaluation of the clinical year and overall program success
  • Assist in the continuous review and compliance of the ARC-PA accreditation process
  • Serve on committees assigned by the program director
  • Participate in the admissions process including application review and selection for the Drury University PA program
  • Perform any other responsibilities delegated by the PA program director
  • Clinical practice time is encouraged.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant from an ARC-PA accredited program
  • Current NCCPA Certification
  • Eligible for Missouri state licensure as a PA
  • Three (3) years academic experience (preferred)
  • 3 - 5 years clinical experience (required).
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching
  • Experience in PA education administration (preferred)

  • Strong work ethic, initiative and team skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student and staff populations
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)

This position reports directly to the Program Director and coordinates supervised clinical practice sites and clinical preceptors.  Incumbent will supervise students on clinical practical experience, work with other faculty assigned to the clinical education process and work in coordination with the Administrative Clinical Coordinator to procure and maintain clinical sites.

Consideration may be given to candidates with knowledge and proficiency in clinical instruction and didactic lecture; including development of competency-based materials for PA education; awareness of and adaptability of various trends in educational methodologies for teaching, analytic and outcome skills; exceptional small and large group communication skills; and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
