Analyze and interpret disability related documentation to determine eligibility for services and accommodations for students with disabilities. Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of appropriate academic support services and accommodations under ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures. Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of retention, graduation, and career programs for students with disabilities including cross-departmental collaboration and program development.

Advise students with disabilities regarding their rights and responsibilities under the ADA, Section 504, and any related university policies and/or procedures.  Serve as an advocate and liaison between students and campus departments to facilitate participation in University programs.  Provide referrals to various on-campus and off-campus agencies.  As appropriate, coordinate with the treating health/mental health professionals. Perform crisis intervention, management, analysis, resolution and appropriate referrals as necessary for students in distress and other crises.

Assist the Associate Director for Accommodation Advocacy and Guidance in the tracking, statistics, and assessment of programs and activities for student advocacy and guidance.  Assist the Associate Director for Advocacy and Guidance in the development, implementation, and assessment of programs designed to increase retention, graduation, high academic achievement, and career transition of students with disabilities.

Assist the office and university in the development and update of policies, procedures, and informational materials related to students with disabilities.  Provide consultation and outreach to faculty, staff, students, local and statewide agencies.  Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of the department strategic plan and disability awareness strategic plan.

Represent the Division of Student Affairs and Disability Services at formal and informal university events and activities and serve on committees as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Counseling, or directly related field.  
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or adults with disabilities. 
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Experience reading and interpreting disability related documentation for students.
 

Additional Qualifications Desired:

  • Specialized knowledge of vocational, psychosocial, and academic impact of a variety of disabilities. 
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
Special Instructions:

Coordinator for Disability Services: Reporting to the Associate Director of Disability Services, the coordinator will directly advise students with disabilities, determine services and accommodations based on documentation, and serve as an advocate and liaison between students and campus departments. The coordinator is a key member of the Disability Services team.

Develop programs for student success: Retention and graduation are top priorities for LSU. The coordinator will assist with developing programs unique to students with disabilities that will improve retention and graduation rates.

Collaborate with faculty and staff partners: Serving students with disabilities requires partnerships with faculty and staff on campus. The coordinator will collaborate with university partners to support student learning.
