Visiting Assistant Professor of Sound Design and Audio Engineering & Technology; Non-tenure track, One academic year contract. Start date – August 16, 2021

Responsibilities: The Department of Theatre at Purdue University is seeking a visiting assistant professor with expertise in Sound Design and Audio Engineering & Technology to teach up to four courses per semester (or equivalent) in the Sound for the Performing Arts BA and Sound Design and Audio Technology MFA programs, from the following: Advanced Audio Technology, Theatre Production, Production and Design Seminar, and Dance Sound Design, and to supervise TAs in teaching Introduction to Sound Design and Technology and Introduction to Sound Studios. Other duties include: advising and mentoring of undergraduates; review of portfolios and resumes; serving as major professor to the MFA degrees; liaising with the Audio Engineering Technology (AUET) and Acoustical Engineering Sound System Engineering Multidisciplinary Engineering (MDE) degree program; and overseeing the maintenance, repair and replacement of theatre and audio production studio sound systems.

Qualifications: Required qualifications include a graduate degree (MFA) in Sound Design, Audio Technology or related field, and professional experience, or an equivalent combination of teaching and professional experience. At least two years of successful university-level teaching in design; an active record of creative professional work and/technical work related to the specialty; experience designing and teaching audio networking such as Dante, digital signal processing systems such as QSys, advanced digital audio workstation software such as Digital Performer, advanced theatre sound playback software such as QLab, acoustic prediction software such as EASE, acoustic measurement software such as SMAART, CAD drafting programs such as Vectorworks, and music composition and performance is preferred.

Department: The Department of Theatre is one of four academic units (including Art & Design, Dance, and Music) in the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. The Department of Theatre has 120 undergraduate theatre students (majors/concentrations/minors), 21 graduate students, 9 faculty, and 6 staff. The Department is housed in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts.
