Position Summary:

Performs as a highly skilled machinist in the design, creation, and/or modification of unique, highly intricate, and precise astronomical scientific equipment, industrial equipment, and mechanical systems. Maintains and modifies standard laboratory and specialized research equipment or instrumentation to be used in laboratory and other research environments. For the Department of Astronomy at UW-Madison.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Using CNC milling machine to fabricate parts
Using CAD/CAM software to program CNC milling machine
Using manual milling machine and lathe to fabricate parts

License or Certificate:

Certification in Machine Tooling Techniques, Machinist Apprenticeship, and/or equivalent experience, which would include formal classroom training or experience in metallurgy and manufacturing techniques.

Additional Information:

Knowledge of general scientific laboratory procedures is a plus.

Work Schedule:

7:45-4:30 Monday through Friday, hours may have some flexibility.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.

Minimum $20.00 HOURLY
