Description

The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse invites applications for an Instructor position, a full-time, one-year, renewable appointment. The successful applicant will demonstrate scholarly expertise and effective teaching in rhetoric and composition studies as it intersects with one or more of the following areas: African American rhetorics; Latinx rhetorics; Indigenous rhetorics; Asian American rhetorics; and race, rhetoric, and literacies. We also seek applicants with secondary interests in the rhetoric of health and medicine, policy rhetoric, and writing in social science contexts; we especially welcome applicants who are interested in collaborating in cross-disciplinary teaching.

The Instructor position includes a 3-3-3 teaching load (three courses per quarter). Teaching responsibilities include courses in our innovative First-Year Writing program; the successful candidate will also develop and teach upper-level courses in their area of scholarly specialty. We are seeking candidates who can work across disciplines to forge collaborative teaching relationships. The Instructor in this position will have an opportunity to build interdisciplinary curriculum. Finally, the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach in our vibrant Liberal Studies Program and in our MA program.

Qualifications

The Instructor position requires that the candidate hold a PhD with a specialty or concentration in rhetoric and composition or closely related field by September 1, 2021. DePaul seeks candidates with demonstrated cultural competencies to include teaching, service and research in diverse learning communities.

Application Instructions

To begin the application, please submit the following materials: a CV; a cover letter that includes description of your research and teaching experience; and a teaching statement that describes your teaching philosophy and how you enact a commitment to diversity in your courses. We will request three letters of recommendation later from candidates selected for interviews.

The department will begin reviewing applications on May 28.
