The Department of International Studies at American University of Sharjah (AUS) in the United Arab Emirates seeks to hire a one-year, open rank, visiting faculty member in sociology.  Candidates must be able to teach introductory courses as well as upper-level undergraduate courses in their field. An ability to teach courses in urban sociology, sociology of religion, environmental sociology or East Asian societies a plus. 

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Sociology, a record of excellent teaching, or demonstrated potential for excellent teaching, and be willing to move to the UAE by August 21, 2021. Travel expenses to and from the UAE will be covered.  Housing on the AUS campus is also provided.  All department members are expected to contribute to a range of faculty and student-oriented service activities in what is a vibrant interdisciplinary department.  

 

As a university formed on the American model and with English as the language of instruction, American University of Sharjah will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education.
