Job Description:

This Facility Coordinator position reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance and is responsible for the maintenance and facilities operations of the College's Selden, NY location, as well as other SUNY Empire locations in the Downstate Region. Additionally, this position provides oversight to contractors and vendors maintaining equipment and building systems, completing projects, or in emergencies.  Coordinator also makes recommendations on how to streamline and improve building operations and services.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Advises staff on facility matters.
  • Provide facilities management for the Selden location and its programs. Directs, executes and/or oversees maintenance, repairs, renovations, snow removal, grounds and all other facility operations.
  • Develops a systematic preventative maintenance plan of campus facilities and grounds.
  • Prioritizes work requests and coordinates all internal and external services as required.
  • Provides general administrative oversight of facilities' operations including oversight of contract personnel when performing facilities' work.
  • Works closely in support of Operations Department needs - assisting with events, travel to other Downstate sites for Operational requests, logistical support (i.e. delivery of supplies, work requests).
  • Responsible for all facility compliance issues including those related to building codes, environmental health and safety, and applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Investigates staff complaints of issues affecting health, comfort, and safety.
  • Responsible for the facilities budget and purchase programs, justifying expenses and monitoring accounts.
  • Works with outside agencies whenever the latter provides oversight or services to the facility.
  • Incorporates energy saving measures and monitor utility conservation at the site.
  • Maintains relationships with outside vendors to assure current knowledge of equipment availability and ensure that the delivery of materials and equipment happens in a timely manner.
  • Provides basic safety and security oversight in collaboration with the Director of Safety and Security. Monitors door access controls, video surveillance and fire alarm systems and ensure their proper working order.
  • Performs and logs monthly safety inspections of emergency lighting system and fire extinguishers.
  • Maintains and updates crime log in collaboration with the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Answers and responds to emergency calls including nights and weekends.
  • Periodic travel to other nearby locations to evaluate and assist with facility's needs.


Requirements:

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • Experience in Facility Management.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in facility maintenance or related field is required.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the New York State Building Codes.
  • Knowledge of and experience with safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the tools, machinery, equipment and materials of the building trades.
  • Experience with scheduling work, including determining staff, equipment, and supplies needed.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications for building repairs and renovation projects.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Broad knowledge of construction practices, methods and materials and an understanding of major building systems and how they function.
  • Proven successful experience in executing maintenance projects.
  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
  • Computers software proficiency (e-mail, MS office software as well as project scheduling).
  • Basic knowledge of automated building controls, security systems and video surveillance systems.
  • Valid New York State driver's license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in facility maintenance or related field is preferred.
  • Certification from skilled trades, building maintenance and/or safety and security building codes is preferred.

Rank/Salary: SL4/$65,000-$75,000
