Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Working with the AVC and the Honors and International Education (HIE) team, The Director, Global Scholars acts as the principal and primary academic and budgetary officer for respective campus Global Scholars office. Provides positive leadership regarding international studies (IS) curricular and co-curricular course offerings and programming, IS Faculty, and Global Scholars/IS students’ success that further the academic, programmatic, and scholarly mission of the institution in its service to the community. Supports the program's mission of being national leaders in international studies education and promotes Lone Star College as an institution of first choice. Processes academic and student services-related policy and procedure, determination of IS academic standards and benchmarks, participation in budgetary allocations, and assessment necessary for the development, growth and continued improvement of curricular and co-curricular IS programming. Supports honors and international crossover programming. Holds direct management authority and accountability to execute policies and operational initiatives for functional area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides guidance and resources to staff and faculty for professional development in an overall campus department location. Plans, develops and implements Global Scholars/IS curriculum, outcomes and offerings. Holds campus IS Faculty meetings and professional development sessions for continued improvement
  2. Implements best practice-based processes for Global Scholars/IS registration and enrollment. Address IS-related complaints, issues and eligibility
  3. Schedules work and activities
  4. Organizes, plans and prioritizes work, including campus-level curricular and co-curricular activities, Global Scholars/IS events, long-range plans and campus evaluation and professional development
  5. Has accountability for all duties of subordinates of Global Scholars staff and oversees student data tracking, travel and budget
  6. Works collaboratively with internal and external contacts. Maintains a visible role in the community and with local ISDs
  7. Negotiates and deals with vendors and outside organizations
  8. Analyzes and interprets detailed information to develop campus-strategic goals and provide semesterly and yearly program evaluation / curricular assessment
  9. Develops and manages contracts and budgets and send to Associate Vice Chancellor for final approval
  10. Responsible for overseeing Global Scholars student advising, including personalized advising, training advisors/counselors on IS curriculum and schedules, providing IS-related transfer and scholarship workshops
  11. Responsible for leading Global Scholars–related travel. Serves as trip leader for some student conferences and international travel. Supports and oversees Global Scholars campus-affiliate field trips. Supports related study abroad and virtual exchange programming
  12. May teach one IS course per semester
  13. Initiates and manages Global Scholars/IS recruiting and outreach by leading recruitment drives, high school recruiting visits and events, advertising and distributing scholarships at the campus level and coordinating scholarship plans to enrollment management
  14. Supports integration initiatives with IHIE/International Programs events and programming
  15. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience must include at least 3 years in a manager- or director-level position


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree


Salary

Hiring salary range is $85,960 - $98,854

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
