Job Description

The Cashier performs monetary transactions through cash disbursements and receipts, provides customer service relating to student accounts and departmental inquiries along with performing various data entry functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
• Provides customer service relating to student accounts and departmental inquires, taking various types of payments and ensuring payments are properly posted and applied.
• Receives and posts payment to the general ledger; balances and posts departmental deposits; prepares and send receipts to various departments.
• Balances cash drawers and petty cash. Prepares cash boxes for special events.
• Sets up payment plans; posts manual meal plans and credits to student accounts; post insufficient fund payments, fees, and notifications on the students’ accounts; processes stale check notifications and maintains hold on accounts.
• Submit written repayment agreements for past due accounts and credit memos for approval.
• Provides administrative support services for the Business Office; orders office supplies, reconciles procurement card, completes various types of data entry, folds and stuff envelopes during mass mail distributions, notes and updates student account returned mail and address changes.
• Scans and links student account information. Scans general ledger cash receipts and daily deposit reconciliation.
• Maintains the Business Office email account and voice mail.
• Monitors student cashiers and their cash transitions throughout the work day.
• Works as a team member and fosters a cooperative work environment.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one year of customer service and cashiering related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Basic accounting practices with special attention to balancing and receipting deposits and payments
• Provide quality customer service by effectively communicating both in person and over the phone
• Multi-task while having attention to detail
• Computerized information systems used in cashiering and/or accounting applications
• Basic computer applications including spread sheeting and data entry
• Cash handling principles and procedures and basic mathematical skills
• Analyze and solve problems
• Handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion
• Work under pressure
• Using modern office equipment; with keyboarding and 10-key adding machine
• Communication, as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, students, administration and the general public.

M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm
