The Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks to hire a Director of the Southern Management Leadership Program. This is a 12-month, 100% exempt staff appointment.
The Southern Management Leadership Program (SMLP), formerly known as the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program, is an innovative transfer program for entrepreneurial students who start their education at Prince George’s Community College or Montgomery College and transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park, to complete their bachelor’s degrees in any major. The student population is highly diverse and many students are first in their families to attend college. The program provides substantial scholarships, academic training in leadership and entrepreneurship, and a strong sense of community among the students, as well as support from dedicated full-time mentors at each institution.
The Director manages the day-to-day operations of the program and advises approximately 80-100 program participants with the goal for each student to graduate, to achieve success as an entrepreneur or leader within an entrepreneurial organization, and to give back to their communities. Duties include:

providing hands-on mentoring support
to students through advising and coaching to improve the viability
of their business ideas and developing their professional
goals;
teaching and managing
entrepreneurship courses and workshops;
continuously improving program
offerings as well as developing the program through creative
offerings and initiatives;
supporting strategic initiatives in
the area of entrepreneurship to support the program and other
campus initiatives;
working with entrepreneurs,
investors, venture community members and donors to create a network
of advisers and partners invested in the program’s success;
and
working in cross-departmental
relationships with the university’s offices of admissions,
financial aid, academic advising, and student affairs to support
program students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree. At least 3 years of experience in higher education program administration. At least 1 year of experience working in an entrepreneurial environment and/or mentoring entrepreneurial students. At least 1 year of experience teaching in a full- time or adjunct role at the college level. Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated track record in teamwork, multi-tasking, and customer service.
Preferred Qualifications:
A degree in business or a technology field. Hands-on experience as an entrepreneur. Demonstrated ability and interest in working with university executives and with students in an interdisciplinary context. Experience building programs. Experience in the local region of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties.
