The Division of Student Affairs IT Systems team is integral to providing impactful services and advanced support for the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the division's 17 departments across campus, the 1000+ recognized student organizations, and the overall student body at Texas A&M University.

What You Need to Know:

Please note: Must be able to be on call and be able to perform system maintenance on nights and weekends as needed.

Salary Range: $62,241.02 - $72,800.00

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of systems administration experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Knowledge of project management, mentoring, negotiation skills, basic vendor relations, advanced client relations skills, proposal writing, business acumen, persuasive communication, adaptability to change, team leadership skills, and quality assurance methodologies.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to be on call and be able to perform system maintenance on nights and weekends as needed

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Technology Management.

  • Five years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server administration.

  • Experience with Linux and Mac administration and configuration management, virtualization, cloud administration, Microsoft Active Directory, PowerShell.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Apple Mac operating systems, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Active Directory, Puppet Enterprise, Jamf Pro, PowerShell, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, VMware vSphere virtualization (vCenter, ESXi, Converter, etc.), Veeam Backup, Nagios Infrastructure Monitoring, Nagios Log Server, and Tenable.

  • General familiarity with principles of DevSecOps, project management and service management framework (e.g., ITIL/ITSM).

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management

  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals

Responsibilities:

  • System Administration - Works with team members to take complex systems and services through their lifecycle of design, transition, operation, improvement and/or retirement. Functions as a primary or secondary administrator for systems administration areas such as Windows server and/or Linux server operating systems, off-the-shelf vendor and custom application support, authentication and directory services, backup and recovery services, centralized log management, configuration management, database services, digital signage, Microsoft and/or Apple endpoint device (workstations and mobile) management, endpoint protection / anti-virus, file and print services, IP security camera system, service monitoring and notification, software application deployment, software application virtualization, web services as well as system maintenance, patch management, log analysis, information security and availability.

  • Service Desk Support - Provides advanced, Tier III service desk support for departmental staff and/or end-user issues. Provides on-call support on nights and weekends as needed. Manages incidents and coordinates the problem management process. Troubleshoots complex issues, analyzes logs, and performs root cause analysis.

  • Infrastructure - Coordinates and implements the design, acquisition, installation, maintenance and support of the Division of Student Affairs consolidated enterprise IT infrastructure located at multiple colocation data centers. This includes: virtualization infrastructure, physical servers, storage, network switches, cabling, and organized rack configuration. Also oversees the utilization, maintenance and support of cloud services.

  • Departmental Support  - Provides resource estimates and progress reports; serves on committees to develop technical standards and direction; ensures that all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental standards. Actively participates in Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge and Project management processes. Functions as a project lead and/or collaborates with project managers to develop work plans and time schedules for projects including outlining phases and tasks, as well as helping keep projects on schedule by performing and reporting on tasks.

  • Departmental Objectives - Maintains a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotion, and/or public relations of the Department of IT. Participates in training and professional development sessions. Supports the success and objectives of the Department of IT.

  • Compliance - Ensures that all work is documented and in compliance with university and departmental standards.

  • Innovation and Improvement - Promotes a culture of learning by continuously monitoring IT trends and investigating, evaluating, testing and recommending new technologies. Performs other duties as assigned.
