The University of Michigan seeks a strategic, collaborative, and visionary leader as the next director of the Edward Ginsberg Center (“Ginsberg”) to create significant social change and exhibit national leadership in the areas of student civic engagement, service learning, and community-engaged scholarship.

The Ginsberg Center is a community and civic engagement center with a mission to cultivate and steward equitable partnerships between communities and the University of Michigan. The center advances social change for the public good through service, democratic participation, and community-engaged learning. Ginsberg is a leading unit within Student Life, a division committed to facilitating student learning and the development of the whole student, while cultivating a diverse and inclusive campus community.  Ginsberg also works in close partnership with the Office of the Provost.

The new director will provide overall vision and strategic leadership to the Ginsberg Center and ensure the organization fulfills its mission. Among the director’s core responsibilities will be promoting faculty and student engagement with community partners, integrating community-engaged learning into co-curricular and curricular offerings; and promoting community-engaged scholarship for faculty. The director will serve as a leader internally and externally and create university-community partnerships, informed by community priorities, reciprocity, and equity.

The director is expected to have a record of distinguished leadership that demonstrates the ability to further build upon Ginsberg’s strong foundation and a commitment to equity and social justice, service, and fostering long-term community partnerships. The candidate will bring creativity, energy, and credibility to the center and have experience with social justice education and civic engagement initiatives, as well as with developing and executing strategy and leading a diverse and complex organization.
