DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position
POSITION AVAILABLE: One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for
a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments
as they become available for Fall Semester 2021, and/or Spring
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Biological Sciences offers B.S.,
B.A., and MS degree programs as well as a Biotechnology Certificate
program. The department has approximately 800 undergraduate majors,
50 MS students, 17 tenure-track faculty and 7 staff. Teaching
resources available in the department include eleven laboratory
classrooms, greenhouse facilities, and a natural history
collections room. The B.S. in Biological Sciences includes a
rigorous core sequence in biological sciences, including courses in
chemistry, physics, selected mathematics and statistics courses.
Within the B.S. degree, students can select a concentration in
Physiology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular
Biology, Microbiology and Biomedical Lab Sciences, and Forensic
Science. Additionally, the department offers a B.A. in Biological
Sciences with concentration in Biology Education designed to
prepare students careers in secondary science education.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Part-time lecturer positions teaching major
and non-major courses in Biology including Introductory Biology,
Genetics, Developmental Genetics, Hematology, Microbiology and
Human Physiology and Anatomy. Please note that teaching assignments
at California State University, East Bay include courses at the
Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses.
RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational
preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester begins August 17, 2021 and
Spring Semester begins January 21, 2022.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or related
field is required for these positions. However, for certain
non-major courses only, the Ph.D. requirement may be waived.

whether teaching or not, must submit a new application for the new
academic year, and a current vita.
