Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Young Alumni Philanthropy is part of a team responsible for raising more than $10 million yearly in direct support of Washington and Lee University’s operating budget. The primary responsibility of this position is maximizing Annual Fund gifts to Washington and Lee through management of the Young Alumni Annual Giving program.

Essential Functions:

  • Under the direction of the Director and/or Associate Director of Annual Giving, oversees fundraising efforts and management of class agents (non-Reunion) for the classes ten years post-graduation including the 5th Reunion and the 10th Reunion.

  • Serves as a member of the Reunion Giving team, attends weekly meetings and contributes to Reunion Giving annual goals and strategies.

  • Manages a prospect pool of approximately 150+ AF Young Alumni leadership proposals. This includes the responsibility of direct solicitation and gift closure.

  • Contributes to overall Annual Giving Calendar including the schedule for and progress of Young Alumni Annual Giving.

  • Travel may be required to visit alumni constituents, class agents and prospects.

  • Collaborates with Annual Giving colleagues and advancement operations colleagues on internal reporting functions.

  • Provides assistance to the Director and other development team members, as needed.

  • Additional related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

This position depends on creative communication to a varied constituency, and the ideal candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated initiative, a careful attention to detail, the ability to work within specific deadlines, prioritize, maintain multiple tasks and manage student workers and student volunteers are important qualifications. Ability to work independently and creatively in a collaborative team-oriented environment is important. Bachelor’s degree and at least one to two years of fundraising or related experience is desired. Fundraising experience may include student fundraising or phonathon experience. Evening and weekend work is required for attendance at major University events such as Alumni Weekend and Young Alumni Weekend.

Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

Types of Work: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm with occasional nights and weekend hours required.
