The Arts and Humanities Division is seeking a full-time faculty member in Communication. The successful candidate will teach 100- and 200-level courses in communication fundamentals, public speaking, interpersonal, and intercultural communication courses. The department seeks a candidate passionate about connecting with students and who has experience or a desire to work with student clubs and organizations. The candidate will work with the Department Chair of Communication on curriculum development and outcomes assessment within the communication studies transfer degree program as well as within the college-wide general education goals and will have course lead/curriculum responsibilities.

Our faculty is required to participate in college-wide service and will also be tasked with exploring the integration of high-impact practices into the communication curriculum. Daytime, evening, and weekend courses are taught at HCC across all platforms: face-to-face, online and hybrid. We are looking for a colleague with the ability to engage students and to instruct using a range of teaching methods and pedagogies

Requirements:

  • Must have a Master's degree in Communication or related field
  • Have a minimum of two years college-level teaching experience in speech and communication curricula.
  • Community college teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with teaching speech and communication concepts in a contemporary environment incorporating digital technology.
  • Experience teaching online, particularly with Canvas, highly preferred.

You will be asked to present a teaching demo, the topic of which will be provided to you before a face-to-face (or Zoom) interview.

Starting rank, and starting salary within rank, depend on teaching experience and other qualifications. Includes excellent medical insurance and other benefits. This position is not overtime eligible.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
