General Summary

The Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) Program Manager will instruct students according to the curriculum designed to assist students to build knowledge and clinical skills aimed at passing the licensing exam for Washington State CNA. The Program Manager must possess the ability to work with students from different socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.

Essential Tasks

Instruction (70%)
  • Teaches assigned CNA courses and maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed; informs students in writing of instructional standards; posts and maintains office hours; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes; establishes, maintains and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner;
  • Collaborates in the development of new courses, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines and textbooks; assists with curriculum updates; analyzes CNA program effectiveness emphasizing a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes as necessary to maintain a successful CNA program; integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program quality;
  • Build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain the CNA license;
  • Evaluate and document students’ progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained;
  • Communicate effectively with students, and all those affiliated with the course, including staff at clinical training facilities, Continuing Education (CE) staff, and prospective employers;
  • Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care;
  • Participates in CNA course scheduling, department, division and college meetings; maintains records incompliance with Washington State Board of Nursing regulations and statutes governing CNA education; serves on college committees as assigned;
  • Maintain proper Washington State certifications necessary for teaching CNA;
  • Provide other health care related training, as requested
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the CE and Nursing Director.
Program Administration (30%)
  • Hire, train, monitor and approve payroll for part-time employees and student workers;
  • Interview, train and monitor part-time CNA instructors;
  • Assist students in registering for the Washington State CNA licensing exam;
  • Request and monitor all state testing dates;
  • Maintain approval status for in-state testing facility;
  • Community outreach for CNA Program – including but not limited to social media, local school districts, veteran groups, Work source, etc…
  • Review and respond to multiple college applications for nursing programs and referrals for health care positions for former students;
  • Advise students on available health care jobs and continuing nursing and health care programs;
  • Facilitate open labs and mock testing;
  • Attending/Communicating with DOH and the Nursing Commission on policies/requirements at the State level;
  • Developing/updating campus emergency/safety plans for compliance;
  • Establish and maintain appropriate files for enrolled students;
  • Assist in the development, implementation and compliance of curriculum that meets current WAC requirements;
  • Assure students are not asked to, nor allowed to, perform any clinical skill with patients or clients until first demonstrating the skill satisfactorily to an instructor in a practice setting;
  • Assure evaluation of knowledge and skills of students before verifying completion of course;
  • Assure students receive verification of completion when all requirements of the course have been satisfactorily met;
  • Assure all student clinical experience is directly supervised.


Qualifications

  • Current Washington State license to practice as a registered or licensed practical nurse;
  • Minimum of one-year experience within the past three years in caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age or both;
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience, at least one year of which must be in the provision of long-term care facility services;
  • Must be able to work variable hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with English language learners;
  • American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification;
  • Computer-literate with competence in Microsoft Office;
  • One-year experience teaching in classroom setting;
  • Must be detailed-orientated and organized;
  • Dynamic, non-traditional delivery methods to teach students of widely carrying levels of proficiency and from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
