Assists in directing the daily operations of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs ( OVMA ) at Syracuse University and the integration of its mission areas and support functions to include Army ROTC, Air Force ROTC, Office of Veteran Success, Veteran Admissions, Veteran Career Services, Veteran Affinity Group, and the Student Veteran Organization. Facilitates the collaboration with other University departments, schools and colleges to implement strategies to increase veteran and military-connected student success. Conducts project manager operations in collaboration with departments, schools, and colleges across the veteran and military-connected portfolios to include project proposal development, implementation, and reporting. Conducts various administrative and logistical management functions in support of the entire military-connected student portfolios.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.

• Ten (10 ) plus years of work experience.

• Four (4) plus years of supervisory and management experience.

• Five (5) plus years of experience working with veteran and military connected students.

• Prior military experience is preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Strong and proven experience in managing a large operating budget with multiple funding sources.

• Excellent critical thinking and sound judgment ability.

• Strong and proven experience in project management operations.

• Strong and proven administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.

• Experience in a position in a fast paced, client driven environment with diverse responsibilities.

• A track record of advancing diversity and cultivating an inclusive culture within a professional and/or educational setting.

• Experience in working with veteran and military-connected students, in higher education and/or in other professional settings.

• Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to communicate concisely and succinctly as required, while maintaining professional communication and relationships with all stakeholders. Highly responsive to communications from stakeholders, and ability to translate that communication into the required action in response.

Responsibilities

Budget & Resources:
• Executes the reconciliation of the department’s $2 million operating, endowment, scholarship and Veteran Legacy Funds supporting 12 military-connected portfolios.
• Provides recommendations to the Executive Director on budget and resource forecasting and allocation.

Student Success:
• Facilitates the collaboration with other university departments, schools and colleges to implement strategies to increase veteran and military-connected student success.
• Liaises with academic advisors and faculty to advance the academic success of the University’s military-connected students.
• Manages the military-connected student advisory system (Orange Success, PeopleSoft, Handshake, etc.).
• Unites military-connected students to campus and off-campus resources to achieve academic success (resources include VA, non-profits, tutoring, etc).

Program Management:
• Conducts project manager operations in collaboration with university departments, schools, and colleges across the veteran and military-connected portfolios to include project proposal development, implementation, and contract metric performance re Student Selection Boards: Conceptualizes, designs and executes military-connected over 12 student selection boards to include the criteria, rubrics and panel members who select military-connected scholarships, programmatic participation, and administers post-program assessments.

Administrative Management:
• Student Employment Management, manages the department’s student employment and work study program ranging from 5-10 students per year to include pay logs, administrative, and logistical support.
• Increase visibility of the department’s 12 portfolios in conjunction with the Strategic Initiatives and central Marketing teams.
• Manages the Chancellor’s Dashboard. OVMA Board of Advisors Preparation.
• Logistical support and coordination (travel, etc.) for military-connected students.
