Job Summary/Basic Function



Maryville University is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to serve as Director of Health and Wellness reporting to the Dean of Students. The Director of Health and Wellness is responsible for the leadership, management, and development of a holistic health center including strategic and operational leadership, supervision of staff, and delivery of student health and wellness services and programs to students at Maryville. The Director provides consistent, quality, primary care to students and has a strong focus on educating students on health and wellness-related topics. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff, and students.

Primary Job Functions:

Administration & Operations

• Develop and manage annual operational budget and allocation of expenditures; prepares cost estimates and justifications for budget item recommendations.
• Maintain accurate health and immunization records for students (student-athletes, residential students, and those on clinical and practicum experiences) in a way which recognizes privacy rights and legal requirements.
• Order and maintain inventory of appropriate drugs, equipment, and supplies.
• Recruit and train student staff to be effective participants in outreach and program facilitation.

Clinical – Direct Patient Care

• Provide direct patient care and follow-up health care for students as needed.
• Administer effective and timely first aid/emergency care and medical referral to the Maryville community.
• Prescribe and administer vaccines and medications as necessary.
• Consult with off-campus collaborating physician, county health department, or other experts, as needed, for issues beyond scope of practice.
• Document care and treatment in patient medical records, and maintain strict confidentiality relative to patient privacy regulations.

Training & Campus Outreach

• Plan, implement, coordinate, and manage effective health and wellness services, and educational and prevention programs.
• Act as a resource to the University regarding current and relevant health and wellness issues.
• Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and collaborate with other campus partners to provide additional support in caring for students.
• Deliver health and wellness trainings, general education, and programs for student leaders and the campus community.
• Chair Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Committee, serve as point of contact for Missouri Partners in Prevention (PIP), prepare biennial report as required by the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA), and other wellness reports required by external entities.
• Participate in divisional meetings; serve on university and divisional committees as assigned; and participate in activities and projects related to student life matters.

Work Hours:
• 12-month position
• Some planned evening and weekend hours will be expected

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Job functions are primarily performed in a fast-paced, indoor environment frequently requiring multi-task functioning. Will work within clinical and office conditions. Lifting and moving items may be required. Required lifting may be broken down into less heavy, manageable components. Movement to and from other departments on campus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Some planned evening and weekend hours expected.

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours (evenings and weekends) and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.



Minimum Qualifications



• Graduate level education – Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family)
• Five to seven years’ experience in health services
• Knowledge of medication administration and detection of common illnesses
• CPR Certification
• Knowledge of OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standards
• Excellent customer service skills
• Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills
• Ability to handle all situations with diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust



Preferred Qualifications



• Familiarity with resources within the St. Louis area
• Three to five years’ experience in a university health center
• Familiarity with Title IX
• Experience with Medicat record management system
