Columbia’s Center for Teaching and Learning is now accepting applications for an Associate Director within the team. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Associate Director, Assessment and Evaluation will support the Center for Teaching and Learning in developing the evidence base for effective and impactful CTL educational development practices, and to assess the impact of instructor innovations in curricular development, hybrid/online courses and digital projects.

 The Associate Director will:

  • Design and implement assessment methods for Provost-funded hybrid/online courses, large scale projects, and digital innovations in teaching and learning. Collaborate with Graduate Student Programs and Services Team to train Teaching Assessment Fellows to assist instructors in developing assessments of student learning and preparing reports of funded teaching innovation results. Support faculty with submitting IRB protocols where necessary, gather data, analyze data, assist instructors in preparing evaluation reports on outcomes, and submit recommendations as appropriate.
  • Design and implement analysis methods for interaction data collected in the CTL’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) database (HubSpot) to demonstrate short-term and long-term impact of the CTL’s programs and services. Work with teams to design surveys for client feedback.  Conduct focus groups, analyze data from the CRM, prepare summary reports on outcomes, and submit recommendations as appropriate. Lead the collection of CTL activity data through CRM and prepare data summaries for team use and for annual reports.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop and support organizational change and  the strategic planning processes of the CTL.  Collaborate with teams in developing team goals, creating action steps, tracking their work, and designing metrics for success.
  • Develop and provide training and workshops for assessment, survey design, focus group interview processes, and other professional development programs as appropriate. Collaborate with CTL teams and support Learning Designers and instructors in creating assessment resources and materials. Plan workshops in consultation with the Executive Director; conduct training and workshops as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of related experience or equivalent required.
  • Experience in postsecondary program (including academic and/or co-curricular programs) and/or project assessment required.
  • Experience in designing and implementing practices for direct and indirect measures of student learning in higher education required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative research methods and design (including surveys, focus groups, interviews) and proficiency with qualitative data analysis and survey software required.
  • Knowledge of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and regulations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a number of stakeholders, including CTL colleagues, administrators, academic units, faculty, graduate students, and staff required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in pedagogy in higher education required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary and multi-functional project teams required.
  • Ability to work closely with faculty across disciplines required. Motivated, independent, and creative thinking required.
  • High level of organization, unwavering attention to detail, and strong commitment to meeting deadlines required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in social sciences, education, research/statistics, qualitative analysis, or a related field highly desirable.
  • Experience with data management in CRMs and data visualization preferred.
  • Familiarity with and experience in the scholarship of teaching and learning preferred.
  • Sensitivity to teaching and learning needs at a major research university preferred. 
  • Experience working with a teaching and learning center preferred.
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in learning assessment preferred.
