Terminal degree appropriate for the discipline
The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the
University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass
Communication invites applications for a full-time,
non-tenure-track faculty position, at the rank of Lecturer, to
begin in August 2021. The primary responsibility of the person
hired for this position will be teaching multiple sections of our
required writing course, Public Relations Communication, with the
possibility of teaching other undergraduate core courses as needed.
The goal of this course is to teach students to communicate
effectively via multiple communication platforms with an array of
stakeholders and audiences at the local, national, and
international levels. Students should leave with an understanding
of how to strategically create relevant messages for diverse
audiences and for a variety of purposes: media relations, social,
and in-house channels. This position is eligible for reappointment
and is primarily a teaching position with a 4/4 load.
Applicants must have either a terminal degree (PhD or master of
fine arts) in mass communication or a related field or discipline.
Candidates with a degree that is not considered terminal will be
considered, but will require terminal degree exception prior to
appointment. Any applicants without a terminal degree are required
to have a minimum of three to five years of recent industry
experience, including writing for multiple platforms, and/or recent
university teaching experience in addition to a nonterminal degree.
