An Invitation to Apply for the Position of
President
Washington, DC and Oakland, California
The Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS) seeks a strategic and visionary President who can lead the organization in its next phase of growth, thought leadership, and policy impact. Over the last few years, TICAS has continued to position itself as a trusted partner and leader for student-centered policies that promote affordability, accountability, and equity in higher education. TICAS has nearly doubled its operating budget since 2018 and developed a strong organizational culture of collaboration and empowerment of the staff. The organization continues to be a sought-out voice on higher education issues, and the research and advocacy TICAS brings to critical policy debates have been influential over more than 15 years.
In an era of increasing race-based and economic disparity, access to high quality and affordable education is key to achieving a stable, fulfilling, and free existence in the United States. With a new presidential administration and renewed interest in federal higher education policy, the next President of TICAS has a rare opportunity to marshal TICAS’s considerable expertise and prestige to influence the policies that will have a positive impact on higher education students in the 21st century.
TICAS is in a strong position, and the next President will be expected to build on its recent successes. Specifically, the President will ensure a smooth leadership transition; develop the organization’s racial equity theory and strategies for its research and policy work; develop TICAS’s next strategic plan; raise financial resources to support the organization’s work; and continue to build and refine TICAS’s internal culture and staff infrastructure.
The President reports to TICAS’s Board of Directors and oversees a staff of 20 and an operating budget of approximately $4.0 million in 2021. The President is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of the organization; achieving programmatic goals; serving as TICAS’s chief external representative to policy makers, the media, funders, and partners; and ensuring the organization’s fiscal health and stability.
