VICE PROVOST AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice Provost and University Librarian (VPUL).

As one of the country’s leading private research institutions, Case Western Reserve offers a robust learning environment for approximately 5,300 undergraduate and 6,400 graduate and professional students in eight schools and the college. In addition to providing a rigorous learning environment on campus, the University maintains and seeks to grow partnerships across the city of Cleveland to deepen and broaden hands-on-learning opportunities for all.

Building on the success of retiring Vice Provost and University Librarian Arnold Hirshon, the next VPUL will manage an operating budget of nearly $8M, a library staff of approximately 55, and over 3.3M print and electronic resource materials. Overseeing the Kelvin Smith Library (KSL) and working closely with the directors of three other campus libraries, the VPUL will foster conceptions of the library for 21st Century interactions while championing and supporting faculty and student research across disciplines. They will prioritize providing leadership around interdisciplinary; integrating humanity and technology through innovation and collaboration; achieving social impact through closer partnerships with other libraries and the Cleveland community; and modeling a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community. Ideal candidates will possess an unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion as demonstrated by continuously identifying inequities and overcoming them by supporting knowledge acquisition, showing a deep understanding of the modern academic library, building resources to enhance entrepreneurial opportunities, and leading with a commitment to environmental sustainability.

The next VPUL will be a collaborative and communicative community builder who is responsible for the leadership and overall management of Library services and collections. The ideal candidate will hold an ALA-accredited degree (or international equivalent) or an advanced degree in a relevant field and demonstrate effective leadership and management experience within an academic library setting.
