Job Description:

The Medical Assistant Instructor position is a 11-month, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of May 2021, though the start date may be negotiated. This position requires effective teaching, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the comprehensive state college mission. The successful candidate will teach and advise a diverse student population enrolled in a variety of Allied Health programs (primarily the Medical Assistant Program), communicate class content to students so that learning occurs, skills are developed, and students are motivated to learn, and achieve their educational objectives. In addition, the instructor will prepare course plans and materials, effectively deliver subject matter content, monitor student attendance and progress, participate on departmental and College committees, participate in curriculum development, support activities that foster retention, participate in the selection of textbooks, perform assessment of student learning outcomes, and take part in other service and professional development activities. There is the possibility of multiple campus, day, evening, and distance learning teaching assignments. This position reports to the District Academic Department Head, Allied Health.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an associate’s degree; credentials in good standing in medical assisting from an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the Certifying Board of the AAMA, the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA),the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), or American Medical Technologists (AMT); a minimum of three years of employment in a healthcare facility and a minimum of one year of teaching experience in postsecondary or vocational/technical education. Successful results of a criminal background check and drug screen are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer knowledgeable in medical assistant course content as evidence by education and/or experience in mental health or psychiatric nursing.

SALARY RANGE: $33,730.00 - $50,290.00 for a 11-month contract. Summer and overload assignments are available.

(Entry level salary is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.)

Pay Details:

Faculty members hired with less than three years of related experience shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows:

164 Day Base (2020 - 2021)

  • Bachelor's or Less - $33,730
  • Master's - $36,420
  • Master's Plus - $38,150
  • Doctorate - $41,185

All degree classification levels add the appropriate dollars (up to $6,000) for years of credited experience to the annual salary figures above to determine entry salary.
