Job Description:

The Band Director is a 12-month professional/managerial position with an anticipated start date of July 2021, though a different start date may be negotiated. The Band Director is responsible for administering and conducting the Concert Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Pensacola Civic Band. The Band Director will plan, schedule, and organize all band concerts; develop themes; select composers and guest artists; purchase music; distribute press releases and marketing materials; recruit and audition band members; audition members for chair placement each term; manage the yearly band budget in coordination with the Department Head of Performing Arts; collaborate with College personnel to secure grant funding and funding for concerts and musical instruments; maintain a database of band members; and teach music classes as assigned. The Band Director may be required to travel in-district and out-of-district and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. This position reports to the Department Head of Performing Arts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a master’s degree in Conducting, Music, Music History, Music Literature, or Music Performance, or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in a qualifying field. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

SALARY RANGE: $35,000.00 - $45,000.00
