Associate Director, Center for Restorative Justice

    Center for Restorative Justice:

    The Center for Restorative Justice (CRJ) at Suffolk University was founded to foster collaborative partnerships to institutionalize restorative approaches to community building, response to harm, problem-solving and violations of legal and human rights. Since 1997 Suffolk University Center for Restorative Justice has served as a regional/national/international thought-leader in restorative justice policy and practice development. The mission of the CRJ is to serve as a bridge between the academy, professionals, and communities through institutions such as public education, training, technical assistance, research, evaluation and scholarship. As a community-engaged academic center, CRJ fosters restorative approaches to community building, resolving conflict and harm in justice systems, schools and communities.

    Associate Director:

    The Associate Director furthers the CRJ mission for restorative justice by overseeing and managing the internal operations including co-leading in professional and training development, marketing and business/budget management and staff supervision. CRJ operations include but are not limited to: the Open Enrollment training program; client training contracts; the Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice Practice and other special projects. S/he/they will also work collaboratively with other university staff in the as needed to manage internal operations of projects and programs.

    The Associate Director will report to the Director of the CRJ.

    The ideal candidate has: substantial experience with restorative justice practices in one or more of those settings; organizational development experience in urban schools, criminal legal system, and/or social service settings; experience working with adult professional development; cultural acuity and cultural humility; and is able to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Leads staff internal professional development in restorative justice, provides guidance on growth as CRJ practitioners, Works with staff on external trainings development
    • Direct management of several staff including setting and reviewing short- and long-term goals; performance evaluations, supervision of scheduling
    • Staff hiring
    • Works with CRJ director and other university staff (e.g. admissions and special projects) to manage and monitor marketing, recruitment and program evaluation
    • Occasionally lead and participate in trainings as needed, frequency to vary based on other responsibilities and CRJ growth
    • Responsible for client contracting in close coordination with Director


    Administrative/Reporting Functions:

    • Act as primary liaison between CRJ and university admissions functions around marketing and recruitment
    • Acts as primary liaison between program collaborators at the institution level
    • Financial planning and budget preparation
    • Administers, analyses and reports on all programmatic evaluations
    • Provides timely reports and records.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    • BA/BS and advanced degree in related field
    • Experience, knowledge and abiding commitment in restorative justice
    • Experience and knowledge in urban educational and/or criminal legal settings
    • Experience working in diverse settings/and demonstrated cultural acuity and cultural humility
    • Ability to work effectively with adults and youth
    • Highly organized, detail oriented with excellent writing and computer skills
    • Public speaking skills and ability to present ideas persuasively
    • Marketing in various media and in social media


    SALARY AND BENEFIT S- $70-80K Commensurate with experience plus full benefits package
