JOB DESCRIPTION

The School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis is seeking applications for a Pre-Nursing Academic Coach. This is a full-time, exempt position.

This individual will provide the following: accurate and skillful examination of undergraduate prospective nursing student academic records for tracking and retention purposes; educational guidance and assistance for pre-nursing students by planning academic goals, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for at-risk students; and services to pre-nursing Freshmen students in support of the University's efforts to increase student retention and clinical admission. This role is also responsible for following up with and tracking the advancement of students who are marginally successful or had one unsuccessful attempt in a general education course.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cultivates strong relationships with students to build trust and act as their personal coach throughout their program of study.
  • Works with students to help set personal goals and troubleshoot any at-risk issues.
  • Ensures that students reach their educational potential by following-up with a remediation plan for students with low predictor scores.
  • Helps struggling students set goals and modify academic plans to prepare the student to be a viable candidate for admission to the clinical phase of the program or to provide resources for transitioning to another major.
  • Maintains a tracking system for at-risk students applying for admission into the clinical phase of the nursing program.
  • Develops a repository for the data and develops a short survey for students to determine what they plan to change their major to and to what college/university the plan to transfer to.
  • Develops and implements retention best practices and innovative student engagement initiatives.
  • Develops student retention program and performance metrics each term.
  • Provides course descriptions and/or syllabi when needed to academic departments or other appropriate University of Indianapolis faculty.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • The ideal candidate will have three years of experience working with students in an advising or coaching role
