Position Summary:

To understand our world and the universe, the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) develops, deploys and supports instrumentation and software systems for research purposes across the world and beyond! SSEC's history of developing a diverse set of instruments ranges from the first weather satellite, to aircraft instruments monitoring the atmosphere, and to ground based atmospheric observing instrumentation. The challenge of operating research systems, in these environments, requires a broad set of disciplines and skills from the team of people involved. This dynamic environment requires us to learn about new scientific advances, systems and technologies on a regular basis. SSEC's mission supports faculty and academic staff led research with the development, fabrication, and implementation of experiments and new scientific research tools for national and international use.

The successful candidate will be a person who can work as a part of a team and who has strong initiative and good problem solving skills. Excellent communication skills are needed to deal with multiple levels of scientific user expertise. This position may develop and present short courses and workshops on specific customized computer technology as it applies to the research being done.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

B.S. Computer Science or closely related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- Recent experience in a software development environment.
- Must have considerable experience problem-solving in a constantly changing environment.
- Experience with programming languages and processes including PHP, GitLab, Linux and Apache, scripting and HTML/CSS are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of best practices around accessibility and interface design.
- Knowledge of data reporting tools (e.g. Crystal Reports, Highcharts).
- Knowledge of Windows desktop application development and support.
- Excellent communication, customer service, teamwork, and issue resolution skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analysis skills.
- Willingness and demonstrated ability to continuously learn, improving technical and non-technical effectiveness.
- Experience working in a research environment and understanding the unique obstacles, processes, and workflows associated with grant-funded research projects.
- At least three years of software development experience preferred.
